Discover "The slave trade and slavery", a guided tour of the history museum of Nantes.
The slave trade is part of the history of the city of Nantes. From the 17th to the 19th century, it occupies a decisive place in the Nantes trade and contributes to enriching the city. Today, the slave trade and slavery constitute a major axis of the Nantes history museum.
Eleven rooms of the museum present objects devoted to this theme. The comments contained in this application allow to explore them. The app helps you to look at and interpret documents. It also proposes to zoom in on important details of a table or an archive. Guiding photos help orientate one room to another. A menu also offers the possibility to select the comment of your choice.
During your visit of the museum, the application will allow you to understand what role Nantes has played in the slavery of Europe. You will learn how to organize a milking campaign. You will know the shipowners and traders at the origin of this trade. You will know how the sale of slaves goes. And you will discover their life in the plantations.
The guided tour is approximately 1.5 hours long.
